1954: Construction of a cement plant in Devnya begins1958: On December 4th, the largest cement plant in Bulgaria with two kilns and an annual capacity of 430 000 tons launches operations, using the wet production process1963 – 1964: The first expansion of the plant is underway. Two new kilns are installed along with four new silos and aggregates transportation equipment. Cement production in Devnya, with an annual capacity of 930 000 tons, represents 40% of the total national cement production during this period.1975 – 1978: The second expansion of the plant is underway with an additional two kilns constructed. A new aggregates facility equipped with four mills is built along with three mills for the grinding of clinker. Four new silos and a new mechanical repair workshop are constructed. A new materials quarry is also opened and annual capacity of the plant increases to 2 100 000 tons. 1992 – 1995: State-owned Devnya Cement becomes a single-shareholder joint-stock company under the ownership of the government as Devnya Cement EAD. 1998: The plant is privatized by Italcementi Group. A second cement mill undergoes reconstruction and a new coal mill is built. The company converts from using petroleum oil to coal.1999 – 2007: An ongoing investment program is launched in order to adapt Devnya Cement to Italcementi Group’s standards in terms of efficiency, environmental impact, quality and safety.2007: Devnya Cement is awarded a First Class Investor Certificate by the Ministry of Economy towards the modernization of the plant. The new project will replace the wet-process kilns with a state of the art dry-process production line and increase capacity to 3,000,000 tons.2008: In February 2008 Devnya Cement receives the approved Integrated Pollution and Prevention Control (IPPC) permit from the Ministry of Environment and Waters. This allows planning and execution of the new line project to begin.
