Devnya Cement AD is the company responsible for the supply of cement that is going towards the Alley 1 reinforcement project currently being executed on the seashore slopes of Varna. The project, an investment of 20 million leva was assigned by Holding Varna, aiming to reinforce shoreline in order to ensure public safety and realize other projects in the vicinity.
The project is intended to support the steep coastal slopes, 35m in height, that present a danger with their high risk of landslide formation. The investor, STIMEX Varna OOD, has initiated the reinforcement process through the covering of Kevlar netting that is set in place by metal anchors, a process executed by the company Stroyinject, followed by pulverization and lastly, landscaping. The reinforcement project will cover a length of 1.5 km along the sea shore. The entire length will be stabilized by the construction of a concrete support wall that is anchored by steel foundations. The concrete for the project is
developed with Devnya Cement’s Sulphate Resistant B 25 cement at the STIMEX concrete batching facility. . The total cement consumption will be approximately 10 000 - 12 000 tons. Prior to the construction of the support wall, mud/clay at a 4-meter depth was removed/dredged out from previous landslides.
At 10m – 15m intervals down the entire length of the support structure, hydro wells and canalization systems have been put in place to collect water that is
thereafter channeled to a common pipe. This aims to dry out the steep precipice in order to prevent future landslides from forming and increase sustainability of the reinforcement project. At the top of the hill, other drainage groves and ditches have been constructed. Mr. Stoyan Stoyanov, General Manager of STIMEX took a brief moment to explain the significance of the project stating that its date of completion cannot be pinpointed on account of the complexity of the project and the many unforeseen obstacles that arise unexpectedly.
