Italcementi Group is one of the ten cement producers taking part in the Cement Sustainability Initiative, a project headed by the biggest cement producers. Its objective is to facilitate actions and promote the progress towards sustainable development. It was set up in alliance with the Geneva based World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Italcementi Group is implementing a benchmark plan, carrying out independent researches and consultations with the shareholders, focusing its activities on the following three aspects:
1) Economic
2) Social
3) Environmental  - covering key issues, such as alternative raw materials and fuels, energy, air quality, noise, water quality, waste minimization and recovery, landscape protection, transport and environmental protection.
In compliance with Italcementi Group’s commitment to Sustainable Development, the company has identified the care for the environment and safety as a key priority in its management policies and corporate culture. In recent years, Devnya Cement and Vulkan Cement made substantial investments to improve production and reduce environmental impacts.

For the last ten years, the Group is continuously engaged in the development and strengthening of its system of sustainable development policies, while in the meantime promoting their dissemination and efficient application at the different organizational levels.
The environmental policy forms a central element of the Group’s mission, equally important as productivity, efficiency, quality, health care, occupational safety and technological development. This policy reflects the active approach of Italcementi Group directed towards foreseeing any ecological risks, as well as the Group’s commitment to continuous monitoring of the plants with the purpose of optimization of the use of non-renewable sources in the production processes and implementation of environmental standards, complying or even exceeding the local provisions governing environmental protection.
