Considering Safety as one of the most important corporate values Italcementi Group has launched in year 2000 a company Safety Policy in all subsidiary companies and activities around the world. The implementation of the Policy fundamental principles is supported by the Zero Accidents approach and involves all the hierarchical levels in the company, as well subcontractors and third parties. Local Safety Action plans guarantees consistent application of all safety related activities and are managed by Safety Committees together with the basic safety tools such as training, internal audits, inspections and safety talks.
The implementation of the Zero Accidents approach has leaded to decrease in Italcementi Group Lost time injury Frequency rate (Fr)* by 75% and reduction of the Gravity rate with 83%.
In addition since year 2008 Italcementi Group started reporting the Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR)** taking into account all the Fatal accidents, Lost time injuries, Restricted work duties and Medical treatment. The TRIR levels for 2008 and 2009 are respectively 12,5 and 11,7.

 In terms of Frequency rate since year 2000 Devnya Cement achieved significant improvement from 7,83 to 2,04 in 2009 after a period of more than 2 consecutive years with zero level of this indicator. The total recordable injury rate (TRIR) for Devnya Cement decreased with 0,9 points to 6,11 in 2009. The Frequency rate and the Total recordable injury rate for Vulkan Cement remains at level 0 and on 31st of July 2010 the plant achieved 7 consecutive years without lost time injury for own staff.
After 9 years of implementation of the Group Safety policy, in both Bulgarian cement plants was carried out external assessment as part of Italcementi Group Safety management system progress review.
Based on the Progress review report, Safety Roadmaps were elaborated and approved separately for Devnya Cement and Vulkan Cement, scheduling the priority actions as part of the Annual safety action plans and the strategy for improvements.
